KTVZ

A Hubbard man accidentally shot and killed himself while duck hunting Friday when he was trying to pull his shotgun up a small hill, Washington County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies responded to the reported shooting just before 6 p.m. in the 19200 block of SW Cipole Road in Sherwood, deputies said.

Deputies said Creed Brattain IV of Hubbard was duck hunting with another man when he was trying to pull the shotgun up a small hill and it fired, hitting him in the underarm.

Deputies, police and Tualatin Valley fire & Rescue medics attempted life-saving efforts, but Brattain was declared dead at the scene.

“A thorough investigation by deputies and the medical examiner confirmed this to be a tragic accident,” a Saturday news release said. Deputies noted that Brattain’s hunting partner remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators.
