Cloudy and mild today, spotty showers possible
The weather conditions are looking dry for the weekend as we are going to see a mix of clouds and sunshine today, but there is a slight chance for a stray shower. Expect the temps to reach the low 70s, even with the cloud cover. Sunday will be mostly sunny and mild with highs in the middle 70s.
There is an Air Quality Alert for Deschutes County over the weekend as there smoke from area wildfires is being trapped under the clouds. The main contributing fire with respect to smoke is the Little Lava fire just west of Sunriver. That fire has been more active this week than any others, growing over 2000 acres, and it continues to pump out the smoke. The other fire that will provide more smoke to the area is the Rail Ridge mega-fire. That has prompted the issuance of an Air Quality Alert for Wheeler and Grant Counties.
Temperatures this weekend will be above normal as the average high for mid-October is 65 and we will be in the low to middle 70s. The cloud cover on Saturday morning will slow the warming process, but we are still going to hit the low 70s. Sunday will be mostly sunny, and therefore the mercury hits the middle 70s.
Mid-70s are expected on Monday and Tuesday with plenty of sunshine Monday followed by late day clouds Tuesday. The clouds Tuesday are arriving ahead of what may be a nice batch of rain early Wednesday morning. The rain will linger off and on and a wintry mix of rain and snow may be possible into the night and early Thursday. That is a long way off and will need to be fine-tuned as we get closer to the event, but we do seem to have some hope of at least some light rain next week.
