Sunny and dry pattern yields to variably cloudy skies Friday and a slight chance for some rain
Over the past several months the region has been very dry with Bend only receiving 21% of normal with respect to measurable rain. There will be a chance for some light rain on Friday but not much will make it to the ground in Bend or Redmond. The best chance for some measurable rain Friday will be in Sisters and Madras, but even that will be less than a tenth of an inch.
The temperatures this time of year should be in the upper 60s but the forecast is calling for temps in the middle 70s for Saturday and the low 80s on Sunday. A ridge of high pressure will be south and east of the area, but we are on the NW edge of the ridge, which provides a mild SW flow to the area.
Not much in the way of rain is expected for the next several days. Thursdays the drought monitor is released by the Climate Prediction Center and today the report shows very little change in the report from last week. The misleading part of the report is that it gathers information over a few months, so it is very difficult to “move the needle” when it comes to classifications. Bottom line, we need more rain, we are way behind, we are not officially in a severe drought scenario, but a moderate one. Still a concern.
Due to the dry and breezy to windy conditions, the Fire Weather Watch in southern Oregon has been upgraded to a Fire Weather Warning. This includes Lake and Klamath Counties, any fire that gets started in the region will have the ability to spread quickly. Please be cautious with anything that could ignite a blaze.
