The Assistance League of Bend will be providing free books to children at a pop-up event on Monday in Sunriver.

The Assistance League of Bend will be providing free books to children who attend the Tower Theatre’s free screening of the film How to Train Your Dragon on Friday.

Central Oregon winters are cold, and in order to help kids stay warm, Assistance League of Bend will be providing free hats and gloves to 400 children in need at Operation School Bell® pop-up events this week and next.

Perhaps no one outgrows “stockings hung by the chimney with care” and “visions of sugar-plums dancing in their heads.” Assistance League® of Bend volunteers ensure that the holiday wishes of local seniors are fulfilled through the nonprofit’s annual Secret Santa program.

Volunteers in Medicine has received a grant of $12,000 from United Way of Central Oregon to help patients receive primary and specialty medical care, prescription medications, mental health care, surgery, physical therapy, lab work, imaging and medical tests, and targeted patient education programs.

United Way of Central Oregon recently elected two members to its Board of Directors. Eli Ashley is returning to serve a third term after a hiatus required by the nonprofit’s bylaws, which allow only two consecutive terms. Anthony Georger is new to United Way’s Board.

Six nonprofits that serve Crook and Jefferson counties, as well as the lands of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, have been collectively awarded $35,000 from United Way of Central Oregon in its second round of grantmaking since this summer.

Through their Operation School Bell®  program, Assistance League of Bend is providing new clothing to over 2,000 students in kindergarten through grade 12 during the month of October.

A total of 31 Central Oregon nonprofits have been collectively awarded $245,000 from United Way of Central Oregon as part of the organization’s annual grant-making process.
